Insert/Command
Insert/Command (2026) seeks to critique the visual codes associated with online contemporary pornography and how digital intervention techniques can destabilise their consumption in a late-stage capitalistic context. The project examines feminist discourse and late-stage capitalist image culture to critique the over-consumption and hyper-sexualised femme bodies in digital spaces, while also challenging influencer culture and spectatorship. The significance of this research is fundamentally grounded in societal interactions and the continuously evolving digital spaces that shape our perceptions of each other. The rise of the micro-influencer is particularly relevant due to the boundary-blurring of social media censorship, resulting in a space for sexual commodification that blurs the public and private spheres. This research seeks to create a parody of contemporary online pornography seen on social media sites such as Only Fans, with a focus on femme, solo-style content that can manifest in both still images and video. It also aimed to employ digital intervention techniques to challenge the truthfulness within an image in an age of mass editing and altering of the photo. I used my own body as a vessel to create these works, a familiar canvas yet a difficult and vulnerable exercise to engage in. The resulting work aims to place my body in a position of power and created a place to regain autonomy over how femme bodies are perceived. Creating a parody of pornography through the femme lens has allowed this project to confront the way society engages with femme bodies in digital spaces. The layering of digital intervention techniques highlights the over-processed bodies that are consumed online in a provocative manner. This research is vital as online spaces evolve overtime, and the way the femme body is consumed and sexualised becomes more widespread and explicit.
